Algoma Conservatory Concerts presents
SCREENINGS of GREAT PERFORMANCES at THE LOFT
Sit back in a leather arm chair, enjoy a glass of wine and a movie snack, and be surrounded by great sound and a laser sharp image on the big screen - while you enjoy one of the greatest compositions in the repertoire - performed by some of the world’s most spectacular artists. Details of the performance will be introduced by one of the Conservatory faculty.
Our 2nd opera screening this season:
The quintessential performance of
Hansel and Gretel - by Engelbert Humperdinck
Featuring the Metropolitan Opera. This family classic is sung in English and was produced in 2008. It features Alice Coote, Philip Langridge and Christine Schafer with Vladimir Jurowski conducting. The evening will be hosted by Algoma Conservatory voice instructor - Dr. Carolyn Hart.
The MET has taken a great work and created a memorable two hour performance with an excellent translation to English. The music is spectacular - as is the staging. It is a feast for the senses.
BRING YOUR OLDER CHILREN or GRAND CHILDREN. This is truly a FAMILY FRIENDLY Production. It is based on the traditional fairytale, with lush, romantic orchestration and fresh folk-like melodies. It is a great opportunity to introduce young concert goers to opera. I would recommend it for students 8 years and up - as they must be old enough to sit quietly through a two hour production.
