Sault Ste. Marie Music Festival (formerly the Kiwanis Music Festival)
This year the Sault Ste. Marie Music Festival (formerly the Kiwanis Music Festival) celebrates its 75th year. Since 2005 the festival has been coordinated by the Algoma Conservatory of Music. There are generally about 600 participants in 6 divisions: Piano, Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Voice and Guitar. Guest adjudicators from across Ontario work with the students. Students are awarded a certificate of participation after each of their performances along with comments from the adjudicator. While marks are not given, students compete for a large number of scholarships. The senior winners from each division also compete for the top prize of the Festival at the Shield Competition. If they meet the repertoire criteria senior students are also eligible to be recommended to the Ontario Music Festival and from there to the National Finals. Please see the application form for the registration deadline and review the rules and regulations. For additional information please talk to your teacher or contact the Conservatory at 705-253-4373 or algomaconservatory@algomau.ca Information about the provincial finals of the Ontario Music Festival is at www.omfa.info
