Kiwanis Music Festival
The Kiwanis Music Festival is held from February through April each year. The Festival is coordinated by the Algoma Conservatory of Music with major sponsorship by the Kiwanis Club of Sault Ste. Marie. There are generally over 600 participants in 6 divisions: Piano, Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Voice and Guitar. Guest adjudicators from across Canada work with the students. Students are awarded a certificate of participation after each of their performances along with comments from the adjudicator. While marks are not given, students compete for a large number of scholarships. The senior winners from each division compete for the top prize of the Festival at the Kiwanis Shield Competition and three junior students from each division are invited to perform in a Junior Showcase concert. If they meet the repertoire criteria senior students are also eligible to be recommended to the Ontario Music Festival and from there to the National Finals. Please see the application form for the registration deadline and review the rules and regulations. For additional information talk to your teacher or call the Conservatory at 705-253-4373.
