Private Violin Lessons, Violin Group Classes, Chamber Music, Youth Orchestra, Music Classes for Young Children
An exceptional former student at the Algoma Conservatory Vanessa Mio went on to receive a Master of Music and a Bachelor of Music, as well as a Performance Diploma from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where she studied violin with Mimi Zweig, Kathleen Winkler and Stanley Ritchie. She is currently a PhD student in the Joint PhD in Educational Studies program at University of Windsor In addition to violin Vanessa received an ARCT Teachers Diploma in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music and was a member of Algoma Chamber Singers where she had the opportunity to sing for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. Vanessa has spent summers touring with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada; participating in the Casalmaggiore International Festival in Italy where she studied chamber music with the Penderecki String Quartet and other internationally known artists; and teaching in Tuscany for a Professional Teachers Workshop alongside Mimi Zweig.
Vanessa's passion for teaching was sparked at the Jacobs School of Music where she had the rare opportunity to serve as Mimi Zweig's teaching assistant for several years at the Indiana University String Academy. The Academy is respected as one of the finest training programs for young violinists in the world. In this program students receive a weekly private lesson and advance through various levels of group violin classes. Vanessa brings this exceptional experience to the Conservatory where she has developed a series of group violin classes, for all young violin students at the Conservatory, modeled after Mimi Zweig's program in Indiana. In addition to private and group violin teaching she is also a member of several professional ensembles with other faculty at the Conservatory and teaches a variety of introductory music classes for young children.
